why is my external hard disk not being accurately detected by my computer?

I have a simpletech external hard drive. It doesn't pop up automatically, or in "my computer". In fact the only place it really shows itself is under computer management as an unknown device. How can i correct this?
where could i find the drivers?

u dont have to install drivers, go to the computer management and format the drive to fat32, when formatting assign a drive letter. if its still says unknown device, copy and paste the usbstor. sys file from another pc. [ path (c:windowssystem32drivers)]

check the format of your hard disk, also keep the second drive as slave .
check the pins at the back of hard drive.
