@kelvinduongg You’d have to go into WD SmartWare and see what files are using the most space. Then delete the files accordingly.

@ckeilah It’s a Smith & Wesson MP series knife. I’ll message you with the link. Also, I’ll try and upload a demo video for you in the near future.

Nice knife! What is that, and how does it work? Give us a knife demo video!

@woocaz1 Hi Alan, to gain access to your MyBook drive, you have to open the WD SmartWare software, and enter your password to unlock your drive, thus gaining access to it.

Good luck with your Essential My Book. Mine died after 1 year and I lost years of files I had been saving. Western Digital says “Oh, well….your drive is apparently dead so go out and buy a new one”. The system said it was not initiated and unallocated. They don’t tell you to format it from FAT32 to NTFS but you have to. I can’t even recover the files cause it’s not being recognized by my system. Money wasted on this crap drive and years of files all gone. They refuse to return emails too!.
ChrisB2007 - August 19, 2010
@schmidt292929 But to lock it, simply open up SmartWare and click drive settings, and then click set up drive. There you will have options for security and setting up the drive’s lock/unlock password.
ChrisB2007 - August 19, 2010
@schmidt292929 Well, the lock/unlock feature on the drive doesn’t actually ask you for a password when you open the drive in Windows. The feature is for when you open the SmartWare software that came with the drive. So on boot up, and when the SmartWare software loads, it asks me for a password. Basically it is to prevent any unaothorized tampering with the drive.
schmidt292929 - August 19, 2010
Hey do you know how to make it so it is password protected? i put in my password and everything when i set up the software but when i open it up it never asks for a password? it says it is unlocked. do you know how to lock it?
ChrisB2007 - August 19, 2010
@aimeejjj This drive does indeed work with Macs. What you need to do is format the drive so it will work with Macs file system. Also to unlock the drive, you’ll have to install and run the “WD SmartWare” software on your Mac. You can then lock/unlock the drive using that software.

ARGH can you please help me asap! I got this drive yesterday and set it up this evening. Plugged it into power, then into my mac. I installed it and restarted my computer. Now it says there is no writable portion because I’m using the wrong operating system or that the drive is locked. I click unlock and it says that this drive is not locked. Does this work with Macs?

@ChrisB2007 sure bro!

That’s probably your best bet since we all know how prompt customer service can be, lol. But yeah, no problem at all man. I’m glad I could help you out. Take care and best of luck. Be sure to let me know how the new drive works.
austinpowerz18 - August 19, 2010
@ChrisB2007 yeah i think i should take it back to where i bought it….i also tried to get some help from WD guys, but i didn’t got any reply from them….but thanx anyways man u helped me alot….thanx again and God bless you..
ChrisB2007 - August 19, 2010
That is very odd. I’m thinking now that it could just be the drive itself. Something is not kosher on the drive and is causing your system to freeze, so all I can really suggest would be to return it to the store (if possible) and exchange it for a new one, or contact WD and tell them about the problem. Since you just bought the drive, it’s still under warranty so I’m sure they can send you a new one.
austinpowerz18 - August 19, 2010
@ChrisB2007 yeah man it does it on the idle mode too:S
ChrisB2007 - August 19, 2010
Well I do apologize man, but like I said before, all I can really think that is could be is that there’s a file in there somewhere that is causing the system to freeze up while you’re copying it. Does the PC freeze when the drive is idle? (just plugged in and not copying anything). There is also a slight possibility that it could be the drive itself, and not necessarily your system.
