Should I buy a 500gb external hard drive and a 500gb hard drive for my new computer?

I want to transfer all of my files from my existing computer (photos & music) to my new computer via external hard drive but I'm unsure if I should get a large external or a large hard drive for the new computer. I was thinking about a 500gb external & 500gb on the new one.

A friend told me to get a larger external & smaller hard drive for the new one so that the computer would run faster, is this true?

Nowadays cost per gb is way down. Shoot 500 gb can be had for less that a $100
I’d opt for a 320-500gb external usb or firewire, tho more common usb.

Get them both if you can afford them. Look at the speed of the hard drives. Also do some research by googling “hard drive review”. Then do some more research by googling the model number you are thinking of buying and the word “problem”.

That way you can see if other people have had problems with a certain model.

There are newer laptop hard drives that you can buy and put in a small case that will fit in your shirt pocket. They run off the USB without having to have a power supply. I have several with the largest 250GB.

    Good luck
