my new external hard drive wont appear in my ‘my computer’????
i have just got my new 'SATA 80GB external hard drive', plugged it in and let it install itself. in device manager, it says my new hardware is functioning properly, so no problems there.
but, when i go to look in my computer, where the different drives show up, my external hard drive is not appearing there where it should be.
i have restarted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the hardware, everything it tells me to try in the troubleshooting section, but still no joy.
does anyone have any ideas about how i can try to fix it???
spot on mr. linux, that worked perfectly!!
thanks

Well if this is a new drive it has no partitions and is unformatted. Right click my computer and select manage, then go down to disk management and click it. In the right pane you should see all your drives, simply select the new external drive and create a new partition, then format it. Now when you go to my computer it will show up.

Check your USB ports.
1. Try to insert it to a different ports of USB.
2. Try other USB device, check if other USB device works.
