My computer won’t let me access my external hard drive, how do I fix this?
A few days ago I bought a 320 gb SimpleTech external hard drive. I used it on my old computer, a Toshiba Satellite notebook, (that I have since loaned to someone else) and it worked fine. Yesterday I purchased a Sony Vaio notebook. I connect my external HD and it recognizes it but when I go to open it to use the files that are saved on it it says the "H:/is not accessible".
What exactly is the problem here? Why won't it let me access it and how do I fix this?
Thank you.
None of those suggestions worked, but thanks for trying to help!

hard to say with this info, but I would try one other machine to see what happens. Did you ever have an H: drive before?
I would also see if check disk can be run on this, this is accessed by going into my computer, right click on the drive then choose properties. Go to the tools tab and choose the error checking option. Choose all the options and see what happens.
Another option is to remove/re-install it and check the disk’s status under disk management (right click my computer and go to Manage, then disk management).
I would check the cables, try another port, and reboot as well.

You might left click on the drive icon and open properties and see what archive attributes have a check mark on them and then uncheck them and click apply. Then see if you can access it.
