My computer is recognizing that is has a Maxtor External Hard drive but the drive wont appear in My Computer?

I need to know the exact way to correctly assign a drive letter. I have had no problems until i did a complete reinstall and then plugged in my multi card reader. The read took drives E-H and i think that is what is messing up my External hard drive. I have tried to unplug everything then plug in the external hard drive but i have gotten nowhere.
Please also remember to add the How-To......
ok... I went into disc management and on the top it shows Drive C, my hard drive and the rest are on the lower half. When i right click on it the only option I have is properties, and help...

maybe the drive is not yet partitioned thats why windows dont recognize it yet. partition it first (NTFS of FAT32) then try it.
    hope this helps

Well I have to assume you’re running Windows XP. So here’s what you do to assign a drive letter.

Right click on ‘My Computer’ and select Manage then select disk management. The drive should show up there. Right click on the drive and select ‘Change Drive Letter and Paths’ assign it a drive letter outside of the currently given drive letters.

Reboot and all should be good.
