The following guide needs to be followed after you clone your HD:- www.youtube.com Any 2.5" hard drive enclosure can be used - make sure it is SATA. As detailed in the video I used an existing external hard drive enclosure, as it had a SATA interface. Link to Superduper:- www.shirt-pocket.com Any problems - let me know.

That could be a bad IDE cable.

the hard drive is semi-burend and you can not do anything if the file on the hard drive is important to you give your hard drive to the recovery companies to create a copy of the file you want and then buy a new one.

I had this problem before. Was a loose connection between the hard drive and the rest of the computer…check the connection…make sure it is snug.

I have the same problem. At first I thought it was a hardware but when i took it to fix, they say it was alright. I still see this message once in a while but I still can use it. So good luck waith you

    disconnected or loose IDE cable?
Jumper fall off, or got plugged into he wrong pins, on the back of hte drive?
loose power supply cable to the drive?

Some computers have extra fans in the case, and the connectors were regular four pin straps, with the fan power coming out of one connector. They plug into the power line, and the other end into the drive. BAD IDEA!!!

Some of those were made out of real cheap metal in the pins, and they ‘hog’ out, or get bigger, then, if used in the power line to the drive, the drive would act intermittant.

    Last idea.

After checking out the jumper, and, connectors… boot from a LiveCDrom, and, see if the drive shows up! If so, it is probably virused, and you can reformat, from the liveCD, and install whatever of the 800 FREE OSes you like, or even go back to the Microsoft Virus Magnet, that Microsoft abandoned on their own machines!

good video.. super duper did the job for me.. i was already using it to make an incremental clone of my 1TB data drive.. this procedure worked wel.. just dont forget that when you format the hard drive, not to select case sensitive. the first time i did it. i made the wrong selection, and then found that some applications would not work on this format of drive.. so now i’m doing it again… Mac OS (Journaled).. thats the one you want..

Hi Chris, I followed your advice every step of the way. I did try to boot from the new drive when it was ready and it fired up alright. However, when I replaced the old HD with the new, the computer couldn’t detect it and I got the blinking question mark. Do you know what could have gone wrong coz I redid all the step twice and still no luck. Thanks

Hey – thanks so much! Your instructions are really easy to follow.
Was in a bit of a state cos I bought the ALL IN 1 HDD Docking and Cloning machine for £30 on Ebay – but no one told me it takes an exact copy but doesn’t allow you to use the extra space on your new disc!
The booklet was such crazy English that I couldn’t understand it, the little diddy disc didn’t fit into my Mac and there were no tutorials anywhere! Finding your vid makes me one happy bunny! Thank You and have a great 2011

All I want is to be able to install Snow Leopard on my Tiger running iMac, back up all my files and preferably just clone everything as it is on my internal HD currently so I can just switch my OS and not have to download all the Apps, preferences, etc that I have installed over the years. My question is, is it necessary to remove the case for the HD in all cases or this was particularly something that had to be done for whatever reason? Thanks in advance for any help clearing this doubt!

Hi and thanks for posting all these great how-to videos for us mortal folk who have basic computer skills, if any. That being said, can i ask what might seem to you like a silly question? why did you have to uncase that HD? I have a 500 GB external HD from WD that I recently bought specifically to clone my Mac HD, I don’t know the measurements but I’d say it’s about the size of an iPhone, only a tad thicker/wider.
