Drive works great. However, bear in mind the Firewire cable that comes with the drive may not be what you will need. I am hooking it up to my notebook computer which has the smaller Firewire input and the cable that comes with the unit is the larger version. I found a cable for $5. 50 that should work here:

Excellent aditional feature to an ever expanding computer system. This FireWire external drive easilly daisy chained to another drive making it a quick and efficient installation. So far the operation is perfect. Amazon provided prompt processing and shipment.

First I would like to say that I own both this drive and the older version that only had firewire 400. So as with all Lacie drives I have not had a single problem with it and yes I know Lacie does not make the HDDs only the enclosures. But if you need speed this is the drive for you!
Test results using XBench on Mac OS X
Read speeds 75MB/s sustained
Write speeds were also in a similar realm but I don’t have exacts and don’t want to pull numbers from thin air.
I ended taking my old FW 400 version daisy chaining it to this drive with a FW 400 to 800 adapter then hooking the FW 800 drive up to my computer using FW 800 cable and turning them both into a software based 1TB mirrored Raid. It works flawlessly though the speed has been greatly hindered due to being both in a software raid and the fact that the FW 800 drive is limited to the FW 400 drives speed.
All in all I am very happy with this product.

What I like about the LaCie Hard Disk is that it just works. I am not a hardware expert. I just have 3 computers at home that need to be backed up. I recently bought a Windows 7, 64-bit PC and needed a new hard drive that would be compatible. The LaCie is perfect. Just plug it in (I use the eSATA) and never think about it again. That’s exactly what I wanted. Plus, it looks great as a bonus. When I called LaCie for some sales assistance upfront, they were very knowledgeable and helpful. You may pay a little more for the LaCie but it is very solid compared to the WD’s I have owned in the past.
