I’m going to buy a 1TB (TeraByte) external HDD (Hard Disk Drive). Verbatim or Western Digital (WD)?
They're both exactly the same price at a shop beside my house, so price isn't an issue. And they both need AC adapters.
Verbatim has a total physical volume of 921,120mm^3 (202mm x 114mm x 40mm) and weighs 1.00kg
WD's total volume is 1,228,068mm^3 (larger than Verbatim). (166 mm x 137 mm x 54 mm). Weight: 1.15 kg (heavier than Verbatim)
The WD one is usually standing while Verbatim is laying down. WD has sort of a cooling system while Verbatim doesn't. Verbatim comes with Nero BackItUp Essentials, while WD doesn't. (that's no problem, I can download it if I wanted to)
My main concern though is quality. If you have had experience with both brands, which do you think is better?
Stuff to compare:
- Transfer speed
- How easy it is to carry it around (too big? too tall? too wide? too heavy?)
- Durability (can it withstand a fall?)
- Usage (interface perhaps)
- Can it be used on a DVD player. (can I just plug it into the USB slot in my DVD player and watch anything I want?)
- etc.
Here are the official websites for both:

Thanks!

I would have to say western digital. I do like both companies and have used their products. The fact that WD has been making drives longer. Also the WD has a slightly larger capacity and cooling for those long nights. Also if you are in the need of a large drive like a terabyte, i assume you have large files. The amount of heat generated by the drive by those large files makes the cooling a bonus. As for the DVD player thing, you need to have a compatible media extender or DVD player to do that. Duarbility is a question of fate. If you need something that can stand a fall, i recommend a Solid State Drive. The interface all depends on your files. If your transfering movies, firewire is a lot quicker than USB. But if a lot of it is hardcore data, USB should be fine. Also, its justa harddrive to carry around. The weight won’t bother you. It’s not like its a dog, you know
