how can i find the power supply voltage for my external hard drive 160gb western digital wdg1u1600n?
the specs say that the ac power input 100-240 vac but i dont really understand what that means

VAC means voltage. (That is AC voltage, the kind that comes out of your wall – not the kind produced by a battery. That is DC. )

Yeah that’s the line voltage, you want the voltage coming off the transformer. luckily I have one 12V DC and 2A output

It means that your AC power adapter (the thing you plug into the wall socket) will accept 100 to 240V . . . or in other words. . it is a transformer that will accept house current (AC) and convert it to DC (what you external drive uses) it also indicates you can use it here in the USA (we use 110V AC) OR in Europe (220V AC) IF you blew the power adapter and want to replace it you have to know the OUTPUT levels in volts and amps and get an EXACT match or run the risk of blowing you drive.
