There's an optional TurboBoost enhancement, which transfers data at 20 mbs on occasion. (It's far from the 480 mbs advertised, but still one of the better rates I've seen personally. ) It's also lightweight, attractive and compact on your desktop, turns off automatically when disconnected from the computer to conserve energy, and is priced well to boot. Unfortunately, it requires its own power supply, which can be very annoying when you need to bring your data with you on the go. Don't buy this device if that's what you need it for.3 stars is for crashing once (after about 6 months of use). Thx to data recovery software and a LOT of man hours, I was able to save *most* of what was stored--nearly 1 whole tb of files. The whole process took up an entire weekend. After that, I reformatted the drive and haven't had a problem since. Out the 8 similar hard drives I've owned. . . this and an acomdata drive (which recently died on me after 6 years) were the only ones to fail like this!If not for the crash, though, this would easily be my fave desktop hard drive. . . and remains my go to storage device. Just be sure you have at least two backups of important files!
